After studying engineering at Glasgow University Steve decided a career in financial services offered the best opportunity to apply his creative technical skills. Having established his own IFA business in 1984 Steve and his team had built up a wealth of experience in pensions and investment planning.
After developing specialist retirement analysis software he launched Intelligent Pensions in 1998 to provide flexible bespoke retirement solutions for high net worth customers. From an early stage a growing proportion of the company's clients were being introduced by other IFAs reflecting the exceptional calibre of services and expertise on offer in this complex area of financial planning.
Through its low cost SIPP facility linked to a range of leading institutional fund management houses the company now manages over 1,000 pension drawdown portfolios with a combined value of over £300m.
Douglas is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and has spent his career predominately in the investment and financial sectors. Prior to joining Intelligent Pensions, Douglas was the co-founder and Finance and Investment Director for an AIM listed Emerging Market Fund, which tripled its net asset value within three years. Douglas's other previous experience includes, managing the Investment Portfolio for Greig Asset Management, a founding Director of Royal Bank of Scotland's private equity business and periods with the Scottish Development Agency and Charterhouse Development Capital specialising in private equity.
Andrew has worked in financial services for over 20 years and for a number of household brands, including Santander, Ernst & Young, Lloyds and HSBC. He has worked in both the intermediated and direct markets and undertaken roles in Marketing, Sales, Project Delivery and Product Development.
With such a varied career, Andrew decided to specialise in commercial marketing in 2007 and was Marketing Director at Santander Private Banking prior to joining Intelligent Pensions in August 2010.
Andrew holds a BSc Honours Degree in Accountancy from Hull University, as well as various financial services qualifications.
Fiona is a specialist presenter and commentator on all areas of pension planning. She is qualified as a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, and is a Vice-president of The Insurance Society of Edinburgh. Fiona has presented at adviser conferences for FT Adviser, Money Marketing and the Personal Finance Society, and is a regular contributor to the trade press and social media. She has also appeared on Sky News, the Today programme and Share radio.
Before joining Intelligent Pensions, Fiona spent time with Eagle Star, Scottish Equitable and most recently Royal London in a variety of pension roles.
John Moret, former Director of Sales and Marketing at Suffolk Life, joined the management team as Non-Executive Chairman in March 2012.
John has had a distinguished career in the pensions industry and during his 7 year career with Suffolk Life, John was part of the management team that negotiated the sale of Suffolk Life to Legal & General. Previously he had been CEO and Executive Chairman of Personal Pension Management Limited and part of the management team at Winterthur Life. He has his own business consultancy MoretoSIPPs and also chairs The Pensions Net-Work.
Stephen joined Intelligent Pensions in 2007 bringing with him extensive experience in Financial Services in both the IFA and Provider sectors. Stephen previously had worked for over 20 years as a successful broker account manager, latterly at Senior Key Account level with Scottish Life, working in the City on occupational and personal pensions. He then moved on to giving advice and gaining valuable experience as an IFA in the South East for some years before joining Intelligent Pensions.
Tim is a pensions professional with 30 years of consumer and business to business experience gained working within the financial services market for blue chip international pension and insurance providers.
Previous employers include AEGON Scottish Equitable, AXA and Norwich Union.
Tim holds the AFPC G60, K10 and K20 pension qualifications and is currently DipPFS qualified.
He joined Intelligent Pensions in 2005.
Joe joined Intelligent Pensions in August 2016 bringing with him over 25 years’ experience of working in the Financial Services industry with a particular focus on Individual & Corporate Pensions business.
Joe has worked for four of the major UK Life Insurance offices including AXA, AEGON & Aviva, building and developing relationships with Independent Financial Advisors and holds the CII Diploma in Financial Planning.
Ben has been working in Financial Services for over 15 years. Ben spent 8 years working for Hargreaves Lansdown and his experience includes retirement planning for private clients and members of company pension schemes.
Ben’s qualifications include a diploma in personal financial planning and a degree in economics.
Robyn has worked in the Financial Services industry since September 2000, where she has done a variety of roles ranging from customer services and complaints handling to sales. Robyn has previously worked for large household names such as Prudential and Zurich, and since 2011 has worked within the employee benefits arena where her skill set now includes providing regulated pension advice, technical support on all aspects of automatic enrolment, project management and delivering workplace presentations. Robyn holds the Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA).
Dave joined Intelligent Pensions in December 2017, bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in the Financial Services industry.
Much of Dave’s career has been spent within the pensions arena, working for such household names as Prudential and Zurich. Immediately prior to joining Intelligent Pensions Dave worked as a professional trainer and presenter on financial services issues, to advisers throughout the UK.
Dave holds the Diploma in Regulated Financial Services.
Alex who joined Intelligent Pensions in 2010 has extensive experience of the pensions sector having worked for James Hay for over 6 years in the roles for Implementation Manager and Business Development Manager in Scotland and the North of England. Prior to this Alex worked for Scottish Life and Scottish Widows. Alex’s exam successes include AFPC G60 and JO5.
Claire has worked in the pensions industry for more than 18 years. In this time, she has acquired a deep technical knowledge of pensions and developed advanced skills in pension administration and management. She is a member of the Personal Finance Society and holds a number of professional qualifications, including the CII’s Diploma in Financial Planning and the G60 pension qualification. She has worked for both independent financial advisers and pension providers which gives her a broad range of experience, knowledge and skills from which to deliver comprehensive and effective pension advice to our clients.
John has broad and extensive experience in the financial services industry with in excess of 25 years with different companies in various roles. For the majority of his time in the industry he has held positions with professional firms providing independent financial advice. He has acted for a range of private and corporate clients including many that are in or approaching retirement. In addition to holding the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate incorporating the G60 Pensions qualification, John acquired the recently created AF7 Pension Transfers qualification at the first sitting in 2018.
Jennifer joined Intelligent Pensions in December 2017 bringing with her over 20 years’ experience of the Financial Services industry, including more than 12 years’ compliance experience. She has worked with product providers, financial advisers and compliance consultancy firms previously, allowing her to build a working knowledge of different sectors within the industry.
Jennifer holds several professional qualifications including the CII’s Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and IFS certificates in Compliant Handling, Customer Care and Supervision.
Kirsten joined the company in 1999 from a large firm of solicitors in Glasgow. Since then she has worked in all departments of the company, building up her knowledge of the business and of the company processes. Known to many clients and their IFA introducers for her role in heading up the Customer Care team, Kirsten now runs a number of special projects and provides general business support.
